TREATMENT IN CHILDREN
There are many benefits to starting a treatment early. The orthodontist can evaluate the position of the teeth and jaws, as well as recommend a treatment to reduce the malocclusion severity. If no immediate treatment is necessary, periodic monitoring will be recommended to allow the orthodontist to intervene at the appropriate time. Depending on the age of the child, after this first phase of treatment (interceptive phase I), a waiting period may be necessary to allow the permanent teeth to complete their eruption.
Here are some particular cases when your dentist may refer your child for early treatment:
-
Crossbite and/or narrow palate
-
Class III malocclusion
-
Premature loss of primary teeth
-
Flared and advanced upper teeth (higher risk of trauma)
-
Correction of oral habits/language problem
-
Reduce the chances of impacted permanent teeth
TREATMENT IN ADOLESCENTS
Some problems can be corrected during puberty because we can use the adolescent growth spurt to improve jaw discrepancies. This type of correction is considered a complete treatment or a phase II treatment.
TREATMENT IN ADULTS
There is no age limit for orthodontic treatment. In fact, adults represent about 25% of orthodontic patients. However, in older patients, growth is no longer present, so jaw discrepancies can only be corrected with an orthodontic treatment combined with surgery. Sometimes, a partial treatment may be recommended by your dentist to improve the position of certain teeth only prior to prosthetic work (bridge, crowns, implants, partial denture).
Upper teeth are fully covering the lower teeth. Lower teeth may be irritating the gingiva in palate behind the front teeth.
Can be due to a bad habit of thumb sucking, a pacifier, a tongue thrust or an anterior position of the tongue.
Upper teeth are on the inside of the lower teeth. This can be due to a narrow palate.
This can be due to a lack of growth of the upper jaw or an overgrowth of the lower jaw.
This can be due to a lack of growth of the lower jaw or again a bad habit.
Upper canines not oriented properly can become impacted and not erupt in the mouth.
COST
PAYMENT
The cost is extremely variable and depends on the severity of the problem, the appliances used and the duration of treatment. We offer virtual consultation (complimentary) and in office consultation (fee). Once the orthodontic estimate is prepared, we submit it to your insurance.
The total cost of treatment can be divided into monthly installments, interest free. The fee may be tax deductible depending on your situation. The monthly payments are made by automatic bank withdrawals. We bill the insurances electronically.
